Winners were announced on March 13th.

The musical theme this year was dedicated to Giacomo Puccini, on the 90th anniversary of his death.
The idea to entitle the competition to Pope Benedict XVI originated from his deep connection to sacred music and sacred chant. Benedict XVI has sent his blessing and is actively following the outcome.

"I believe - he said - that music really is the universal language of beauty, what connects men of good will on the Earth, what makes them gaze towards the Hig and  open up to the Good and to the Beauty, which ultimately draw from God himself".

The aim of the International Competition for Sacred Music Composition Pope Benedict XVI is to promote creativity in new composers around the world, with a focus on sacred repertoire, which originated in Gregorian chants and polyphony, and to develop and support the future of sacred music, experimenting new languages and forms, while respecting its tradition.
