No Dogs In
Texts by M. P. Winspeare, M. De Luca
This book is for all dog lovers who, though understanding the legitimate reasons for not allowing dogs to enter museums or monumental complexes, never give up. These animals, which cannot appear in the flesh, are widely represented in works of art. At times they pop up in the middle of a crowd. At other times, they run after their prey in a hunting scene. When they accompany the protagonists they are in close-up, but every now and then they themselves are at the center of attention. We've traced their constant, loyal presence in the collections of the Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti and in a few frescoes in celebrated Florentine complexes. The result: a short anthology we dedicate to our four-legged friends that hopes, in some way, to make up for the many prohibitions that often deprive them of the possibility of following us.
