Rivista "Codice 602" - 2025

The sixteenth issue of the musicological journal Rivista Codice 602 (2025) confirms the publication's role as a reference point for research and dissemination in Italian music studies. 

This issue offers a journey that combines past and present, through essays ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music.

A significant part is dedicated to Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, with three contributions analysing his poetics, his relationship with poetic text (including through Petrarch) and his reception today. It then moves on to the 20th century, with studies on Erik Satie, interpreted from an intermedial and conceptual perspective, and on Luciano Berio, whose legacy is explored through the Florentine centre Tempo Reale, a place of continuous experimentation and transmission of his artistic practices.

A contemporary essay tackles the theme of vocal manipulation in mainstream music, questioning the concept of authenticity in the digital age, while a historical study reconstructs the figure of the 18th-century bookseller and librettist Giovanni Paolo di Mercurio, highlighting his role in the spread of melodrama in Sicily.

As always, the publication dedicates space to studies related to Lucca: the establishment of the Gaetano Giani-Luporini Study Centre; an analysis of Giani-Luporini's Motet for the Holy Cross; and an investigation into the poetic-musical exchanges between Tuscany and Corsica from the 18th century onwards.

This is followed by a section dedicated to degree theses, with a work on the oboe in the 20th-century repertoire, and a new section dedicated to PhD theses, which presents projects in the fields of performance, neuroscience, technology and music bibliography. 

This introduction confirms the growing integration of conservatories into the national university system.
