Exhibition catalogue edited by Serena Nocentini and Valentina Zucchi
Florence, Palazzo Medici Riccardi
16 December 2021 - 10 March 2022
A journey into the heart of Florence with an exhibition that rediscovers and celebrates Benozzo Gozzoli at Palazzo Medici Riccardi
The book is dedicated to the rediscovery of the artist Benozzo Gozzoli, who left us one of the most significant paintings of the second half of the fifteenth century, commissioned by the Medici family for their chapel in Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence.
The colourful scene of the Journey of the Magi winds along the walls of the chapel to converge on the Adoration of the Child by the workshop of Filippo Lippi.
A chronicle that shows the faces of that time, including the self-portrait of the painter, the customs and traditions of an era, exotic animals and other curiosities that hit the eyes of the visitor.
Among the works on display we can find the Madonna and Child with angels from the National Gallery in London, the Pala della Sapienza Nuova from the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia and the drawings of the Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe of the Uffizi Galleries.
The volume is edited by the art historians Valentina Zucchi and Serena Nocentini with the collaboration of Italian scholars such as Cristina Acidini and international experts as Diane Cole Ahl.
