The Liturgy of Holy Saturday ends with the acclamation Gloria in excelsis Deo, an indirect announcement of the Resurrection: then the bells (which had remained silent during the days of Passion) are melted and we enter into the atmosphere of the Easter celebration.

The very brief musical cue on which this Gloria is sung serves as the theme for two series of 12 micro-variations in which the thematic cell is carried over all the degrees of the chromatic scale, not in contiguous succession but arranged in free sequence.

The piece is dedicated to the 2023 edition of the International Violin Competition 'Premio Rodolfo Lipizer'.
