Fra Girolamo Savonarola nel Museo di San Marco
AN INEDIT EFFIGIE FOR THE REDISCOVERY OF A HISTORICAL FIGURE STILL CURRENT TODAY
edited by Angelo Tartuferi
Quaderni del Museo di San Marco, n. 4
The new "Quaderno del Museo di San Marco" presents the unprecedented bust of the great Dominican preacher, the only three-dimensional effigy of the Renaissance period known up to now, identified by Giancarlo Gentilini.
The entry of the work into the collections of the Florentine Museum prompted the complete renewal of the layout of the 'Celle del Savonarola', presented here.
The volume will present the new exhibition on a scientific level, with critical essays by Giancarlo Gentilini and Catia Ceccacci on the bust of Savonarola and its author, by Laura Pellegrini on Savonarolian iconography and by Anna Soffici on the past preparations dedicated to him, and will be enriched finally, from a contribution by Father Gian Matteo Serra, Rector of the Basilica of San Marco, on the current meaning of the figure of Savonarola for the Dominican Order.
