This book celebrates a passion: the passion for collecting fragile and refined objects such as porcelain that led Ludovico Vimercati Sanseverino to create one of the most important collections of European ceramics.

A passion that quickly turned from initial aesthetic interest into cultural awareness, thanks to years of study and encounters. Decisive was the one with historian Andreina d'Agliano, among the volume's editors together with Giovanni de Girolamo and Sebastian Kuhn, whose contributions restore this collection's cultural as well as aesthetic value.

As we leaf through the pages of this volume, we discover a fascinating world of ‘small’ objects, a heritage that is often relegated to intimate stories and jealously preserved in private homes, but which instead bears witness to an important part of European history, made up of episodes of court life and relations between great lineages, in which porcelain satisfied the ostentation of power and wealth of the great noble families of the first half of the 18th century.
