The volume presents a selection of seventy works of Italian figurative culture from the Unification to the Second World War from the collection of Clemente Bologna, later donated to the Society of Executors of Pious Dispositions of Siena in 1983.

Clemente Bologna (1873-1964), a lawyer and wealthy landowner whose possessions stretched from the Val d'Orcia to San Casciano Bagni, from Montepulciano to Chiusi and Sorano, loved to frequent artists and antiquarians, and to collect art objects. Among these, the collection of paintings, drawings and prints offered to the public in this publication is mainly composed of works by artists who worked in the lands pertaining to Bologna, first and foremost Gino Severini, Giuseppe Viner, Paride Pascucci and Lionello Balestrieri, and a conspicuous number of oil paintings by well-known 19th and 20th century painters.
