The 'intellectual dressmaker' who brings the two worlds of art and fashion closer

"The way we dress must be an instrument of irradiation of our ego [...]. I create for this ideal woman who shapes and reshapes herself starting from her inner development. To this ever new woman I dedicate my creative capacity each time I undertake this marvellous task".

In these private writings there is all of Germana Marucelli: a 'predestined dressmaker', she was the first Italian fashion designer to firmly reject the dominance of French haute couture and to actively work for the birth of 'Made in Italy', in constant search of a personal stylistic language that would lead her to create innovative lines considered by many to be forerunners of Christian Dior's New Look

As a true visionary, she opened the doors of her 'tailor' shop' to the world of culture, starting collaborations with artists of her time (Paolo Scheggi, Getulio Alviani, Pietro Gentili and Massimo Campigli) and transforming her atelier into a veritable cultural salon frequented by artists, critics, writers, poets, architects and designers (Giuseppe Ungaretti, Salvatore Quasimodo, Eugenio Montale, Gillo Dorfles, Lucio Fontana, Ettore Sottsass and Giò Ponti).
