Leonardo da Vinci
Bellezza e invenzione
exhibition curated and catalogue edited by Sara Taglialagamba
Livorno, Museo della Città, 21.12.2023 – 01.04.2024
This important exhibition at the Museo della Città of Livorno explores Leonardo's relationship with territory, beauty and invention and explores issues related to the diffusion and reception of his work among artists and scientists from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. A tribute to Carlo Pedretti, one of Leonardo's greatest scholars, is included in the catalogue together with important essays by experts of international standing and a focus on the recent discovery of the events related to an autograph drawing by Leonardo between the 1920s and 1950s.
The catalogue closes with a section on the strong link between Leonardo and some artists of the second half of the twentieth century made explicit thanks to the interest of Carlo Pedretti. Large-format images of the admirable works kept at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan (Codex Atlanticus) and at the Biblioteca Reale in Turin (Codex of Flight) together with other comparative works of art constitute a rich apparatus that makes the catalogue immediately enjoyable by the public.
