Mirabili Tracce

In the splendid setting of Palazzo Chigi Seracini in Siena, the first major monographic exhibition of the great Milanese illustrator.

The catalogue, edited by Stefano Jacoviello, traces the various parts of the imaginative atlas De bestiarum naturis, a monumental work that, line by line, builds an alternative world populated by fantastic creatures, each reflecting aspects of a human quality.

Some creatures feed on Western visual memory, others review portraits of passions, and still others play with the mechanisms of vision.

Mirabili Tracce starts from the idea that to know a world, one must trace its signs and compose a panorama that concentrates in the mobility of the gaze that contemplates it all the journeys that would cross it.

In this exhibition, 121 works have been selected, reproduced in large format to follow a path through gazes, visions, metamorphoses, up to the most abstract textures and signs.

The catalogue is completed by some works by the brilliant artist Gianni Sassi kept in the rooms of Casa Bucci, traces among traces, recovered after the flood of May 2023.
