Le calzature antiche e la loro fortuna nella cultura del Novecento
Florence, Uffizi Galleries, Pitti Palace
Museum of Costume and Fashion
16 December 2019 - 19 April 2020
The history, the social role and the symbolic value of footwear starting from the classical world to the contemporary are the topic of this volume.
On display are the main types of shoes used in the period between the fifth and the IV century BC, found in archaeological contexts located in northern Europe. Depictions on reliefs, figured vases and statues will integrate the archaeological nucleus together with a section dedicated to the fortune of ancient footwear in the culture of the twentieth century, from two points of view: fashion and cinema.
