It's the most famous work in the world. A masterpiece, a fetish, an icon. A monograph by the Director of the Accademia Gallery, Franca Falletti, is entirely dedicated to this work, piecing together its history, its relationship with the city of Florence, its success, its legend, and its present-day role in the collective imaginary (kitsch included).
Franca Falletti, a member of Florence's Superintendence and Director of the Accademia Gallery, has published various studies on Michelangelo. She also directs, for Sillabe, the series "Il luogo del David," dedicated to the Gallery's noteworthy research and promotion. She is currently organizing the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the David.
