The fourth volume in our series, it investigates for the very first time the springs and the underground aqueducts conducting water to the seventy-eight lines of the Garden, revealing true amazing masterpieces and secrets related to those waters.


The book consists of three parts. The first part focuses on the history of Boboli's water system construction and its establishment, from the 16th century until now. The second part investigates the engineering and technical aspects of the 16th and 17th century Medicean aqueducts. Each of the aqueducts is carefully described and illustrated through pictures and introduced by planimetry showing its route, from the spring to the final users. A deep insight into six springs and medicean aqueducts along eight five modern municipal plants, which sustain the whole monumental site of Pitti and Boboli. The third part contains an original Glossary with over 80 new terms, offering an unprecedented overview of lexical terms used in Boboli from the 16th century to now.
