Pratolino

The "Alchemic Dream" of Francesco I de' Medici started when he bought a piece of dry, untamed and inhospitable piece of land which connected Florence to the Tuscan-Emilian Appennines. He channeled the waters coming from twelve springs from Mount Senario to build an extraordinary Garden where myths, alchemy and symbolism could merge along with the secret mechanism of Nature.

Today, almost five centuries later, we try to give a new insight of what is left of that splendour.

The Author:

Costanza Riva researcher and scholar, has dedicated herself to the rediscovery of Ancient Traditions, as well as symbolism and mythology. She has studied Hermeticism, which subsequently drove her to further investigate  historical gardens, with the publication of the books Boboli, Il Giardino Alchemico (2010) and  La Grotta Grande di Boboli, laboratorio di meraviglie (2011).

In 2009 she participated on the writings of Antichi Sapori, which aims to share gastronomic customs now long forgotten. She is passionate about iconographic paintings both as an ancient painting technique and as a symbolic study of form and colour.
