Le predelle
DISCOVERING THE STORIES HIDDEN IN THE PREDELLE with Paola Candeloro
An interesting itinerary for young readers aged 8 and over, among the Uffizi Rooms to discover the Predella, the lower part of the most famous sacred paintings, polyptychs or altarpieces, of medieval and Renaissance times. Often it is the Predella that tells us compelling stories, colourful details taken from everyday life and unusual episodes of the lives of religious characters.
The Predella is a story made of images for those who could not read but needed to know. Among the proposals examined by the author are the Flight into Egypt by Gentile da Fabriano, with its landscapes, and the Miracle of Saint Eligio by Sandro Botticelli, where he shows the saint before his conversion when he was a blacksmith. The proposed examples are accompanied by curiosities that explain and illustrate in a simple and exhaustive way the episodes taken in exams.
The author Paola Candeloro has a consolidated experience in the Educational Section of the Uffizi Galleries and passionately guides young visitors to discover the masterpieces preserved in the museum, choosing unusual and curious paths.
