An encyclopedia unique in its kind, this third volume traces the development of the most important Italian tapestry manufacture at the time of Ferdinando II de' Medici, including the activity carried out under the direction of Pietro Févère (Pierre Le Febvre) and Giovanni Pollastri and the production of Pietro and Bernardino van Asselt (1630-1672).
This is the period in which the series for Palazzo Pitti are woven, including those destined to the Rooms of the Planets, while the commissions from the external customers are progressively exhausted. Pietro Févère was responsible for the numerous tapestry copies of famous paintings, made in these same years.
The rich and unprecedented photographic campaign, including all the tapestries belonging to the Uffizi Galleries, makes this work an essential tool to understand one of the crucial periods of the art and the history of Italian manufacturing since the mid-sixteenth century.
