From the second half of the 13th century, Siena gave birth to its own peculiar artistic school, capable of identifying itself through a certain stylistic code which, over the centuries and up to the 20th century, has been able to look at the main phenomena of Italian and European art, maintaining always its own originality. This catalogue, therefore, wants to retrace this long and centuries-old story, through a careful selection of 67 works by renowned authors: Pietro Lorenzetti, Andrea di Bartolo, Stefano di Giovanni (Sassetta), Domenico Beccafumi, Rutilio Manetti and many others, owned by the Banca Monte dei Paschi (today preserved in several locations including Palazzo Salimbeni, Palazzo Tantucci, Palazzo Spannocchi, Palazzo Sansedoni, Palazzo Chigi Saracini and the San Donato Museum).
Works by Sienese masters were carried out for Siena, for its territory and also for venues located outside its ancient and recent administrative borders, given that the fame of so many masters was able to easily cross the city walls.
The well-preserved heritage of the Banca Monte dei Paschi and of some noble Sienese families is the true protagonist of this exhibition, the testimony of an ancient and always current culture.
