Aleardo Paolucci

Aleardo Paolucci, the painter of the Val d'Orcia and Pienza, has dedicated his life to the celebration of his land: his artistic production documents the traditions, history and landscapes dear to him by means of different painting techniques such as oils, temperas, acrylics, gold flakes, sand and graffiti. It is no coincidence that Paolucci also produced three 'Drappelloni' - Palio banners -  for the historic Palio of Siena between the 1950s and 1960s.

This new exhibition presents a series of 54 works, both graphic and pictorial, on Pope Pius II, which still reveal his timeliness in the contemporary art scene. Paolucci uses an emotional communication that analyses the fortunes of the Piccolomini family and at the same time tells the story of the communities, their Renaissance customs and traditions, through symbolic allegories: a visual and chromatic tale that extends beyond mere historical representation.

The catalogue, as well as the travelling exhibition, have the merit of reconstructing an ideal 'fil rouge' between the life of Pius II and that of the author himself between Pienza, Siena and Rome.
